Most of us, if not all, have been frustrated or saddened by times in our life where we have made plans or had goals that we wanted to accomplish when all of a sudden something came up and it had to put it off. The events of 2020 really put this into perspective for many so it is no surprise that life can throw curveballs at a seemingly inconvenient time. This can take our emotions off balance and if left unchecked can definitely result in a negative tailspin of emotions.
When we are too stressed out our bodies start to increase the secretion of cortisol, a stress hormone. Too much cortisol can negatively impact us in many ways resulting in adverse reactions and sickness. We can help combat the stresses of life by doing healthy things to increase secretion of “happy chemicals” in our bodies; Serotonin, Dopamine, Oxytocin and Endorphins.
